He is also serving as the Secretary General of the Society for Indian Ocean Studies. His works has been published in many books and journals.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Satish Chandra\u2019s History of Medieval India is a comprehensive overview of the history of the Indian subcontinent between the eighth and eighteenth century. It focuses on: 1.The histories of the Chola, Bahmani and Vijayanagara kingdoms. 2.The influence exerted by the Surs, Lodis, the Delhi Sultanate, and the Mughals. 3.The importance of the Rajput kings and the Marathas. 4.Religious movements, such as Sufism and the Bhakti movement. 5.The changing political, economic and agrarian scene.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>One definition includes the period from the 6th century,<sup id=\"cite_ref-exeter_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0the &#8220;first half of the 7th century&#8221;,<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0or the 8th century<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0up to the 16th century, essentially coinciding with the\u00a0<a title=\"Middle Ages\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Middle_Ages\">Middle Ages<\/a>\u00a0of Europe. It may be divided into two periods: The &#8216;early medieval period&#8217; which lasted from the 6th to the 13th century and the &#8216;late medieval period&#8217; which lasted from the 13th to the 16th century, ending with the start of the\u00a0<a title=\"Mughal Empire\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mughal_Empire\">Mughal Empire<\/a>\u00a0in 1526. The Mughal era, from the 16th century to the 18th century, is often referred to as the\u00a0<a title=\"Early modern period\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Early_modern_period\">early modern period<\/a>,<sup id=\"cite_ref-exeter_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0but is sometimes also included in the &#8216;late medieval&#8217; period.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Parthasarathi38_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>An alternative definition, often seen in those more recent authors who still use the term at all, brings the start of the medieval times forward, either to about 1000 CE, or to the 12th century.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0The end may be pushed back to the 18th century, Hence, this period can be effectively considered as the beginning of Muslim domination to\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"British India\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_India\">British India<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Singh2008_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0Or the &#8220;early medieval&#8221; period as beginning in the 8th century, and ending with the 11th century.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The use of &#8220;medieval&#8221; at all as a term for periods in Indian history has often been objected to, and is probably becoming more rare (there is a similar discussion in terms of the\u00a0<a title=\"History of China\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/History_of_China\">history of China<\/a>).<sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0It is argued that neither the start nor the end of the period really mark fundamental changes in Indian history, comparable to the European equivalents.<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0<a title=\"Burton Stein\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burton_Stein\">Burton Stein<\/a>\u00a0still used the concept in his\u00a0<i>A History of India<\/i>\u00a0(1998, referring to the period from the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Guptas\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guptas\">Guptas<\/a>\u00a0to the Mughals), but most recent authors using it are Indian.
